Muslim Health Insider Men's Health

Your bloodwork came back normal. You still wake up at thirty-one feeling forty. And you have told yourself the same three things every man tells himself at this age: it is my age, it is stress, I need more sleep.
It is none of them. One chain sits behind all of it. It can be measured. And almost nobody in this country gets tested for it — least of all a man with your skin.
Below is what is actually happening inside you. What a real fix would have to do. And which product on the halal shelf is the only one built against that list.
Note: read this before you buy another "testosterone" supplement. Most of what is sold under that word is caffeine with a label on it. And three of the most common things on the halal shelf are not what the front of the bottle says they are.
Read this list and be honest with yourself.
Four or more, and you are not reading about somebody else.
Most men file it under age. Three separate problems, treated separately — a stronger pre-workout for one, an earlier bedtime for another, a harder programme for the third. And nothing moves.
Nothing moves because it was never three problems.
Note: Read this before you buy another supplement.
Reason #1
Your cortisol is high. That is why your testosterone is low. You did everything right for a year and came out the other side worse. Here is why.
Cortisol is what your body raises when demand never stops. The 5am alarm. The shift. The commute. The bills. The phone at eleven. None of it is dangerous — and your body cannot tell the difference between a lion and a mortgage.
And while cortisol stays up, it shuts down the signal that tells your body to produce testosterone. The two move in opposite directions. That is not a supplement company's theory. It is the reason a man can train harder, sleep more and eat cleaner for twelve months and still end the year emptier than he started it.
You have spent years working on the thing that follows orders. Not on the thing giving them.
The ritual contains standardised ashwagandha root extract, studied in clinical trials for lowering cortisol. Purified shilajit and zinc sit on the other side of the same balance.
You did not lose your discipline. Your testosterone dropped while your cortisol stayed up, for years, and nobody ever measured either one.
The second reason is the one that is harder to hear.
Normal is a range, and a very wide one. A man at the bottom of it and a man at the top of it are not living the same day. More to the point: the thing described in Reason 5 was almost certainly not on your form at all. Keep going to your doctor — but ask for it by name.
That is exactly the problem. Your body does not measure drama, it measures demand that does not stop. A job, a commute, children and six hours of sleep is a sustained load. Nothing has to go wrong for this to be running in the background for a decade.
Reason #2
There is one thing here you have never said out loud to anyone.
You have trained chest for two years. Incline, flat, dips, cables. Your arms answered. Your back answered. That one area did not move.
So you stopped taking your shirt off. You keep it on at the pool. You keep it on at the beach. You have a specific t-shirt you swim in, and everyone in your house has quietly agreed not to mention it.
And you have decided the reason is that you are not disciplined enough.
It is not.
Fat answers to training and food. This does not, and there is a reason for that. Testosterone and estrogen sit in your body as a ratio. When testosterone drops — from years of exactly what is described above — that ratio shifts. And chest tissue in men is one of the first places a shifted ratio shows up.
You cannot train away a ratio. You can train around it for two years and get nowhere. Which is what happened.
Here is the part that gives it away. Thin men have this too. Plenty of men in that thread were lean and still carrying it. If it were fat, they would not be. A man in the same thread put it flatter than anyone: many men I see at 30 look 40. Age does not do that. Not at thirty, and not in ten years.
Sixty-hour weeks. Five hours of sleep. A body that never gets a week off. That burns through magnesium, zinc and iron faster than food replaces them — and those three are exactly what your body needs to make testosterone.
What we are not going to tell you. That two gummies will flatten your chest. If what you are carrying is glandular tissue, nothing you swallow removes it — and any brand that tells you otherwise is lying to your face. What this works on is what sits underneath: the cortisol that suppresses testosterone, the D3 your body needs to make it, the zinc it uses to do it. See a doctor about the tissue. Fix the inputs either way.
You have spent two years trying to train off something that was never fat.
So where did it go? That is Reason 3, and it is the one that should make you angry.
Because training was never the variable. Your arms and back answered because they are muscle responding to load. If what is sitting on your chest is a hormone ratio rather than fat, no amount of load moves it. You were not doing it wrong. You were working on the wrong thing.
Especially for you. Lean men carry this, and that is the clearest sign it is not fat. Weight is one possible symptom of a deficit. It is not the deficit.
We do not know, and neither does anyone else selling you something. If it is glandular, it is a medical question and belongs with a doctor. What we can tell you is what the raw materials have been studied for, and that leaving the inputs empty is what got the ratio here in the first place.
Reason #3
Bloated and sluggish all night after iftar. Heavy after every big meal, and worse with every hour of the day.
To break food down properly your body has to be in rest-and-digest. Sustained stress pulls you out of it.
The stomach empties slower. Food sits longer. Longer sitting means fermentation — and fermentation makes gas. Breakfast is fine. Lunch adds to it. By dinner there is a queue.
And here is the part nobody connects, which matters more to you than the bloating does. A gut that is not moving is a gut that is not absorbing. The vitamin D. The black seed oil. The shilajit off the marketplace that tasted like burnt plastic. You bought all of it, nothing happened, and you filed supplements under scam.
You did not take the wrong thing. It never arrived. And a stressed gut is worst at absorbing exactly what stress burns most of — magnesium, zinc, iron. The three your body needs to build testosterone.
Then the loop closes on you. Emptier stores mean worse stress regulation. Worse regulation means more load. More load means less absorption. Round and round for years, while you are doing everything right.
A 2024 study in Epidemiologia found the same thing: when you are short of one nutrient, your body takes up the next one worse. That is a link, not proof. But it points exactly where this chain points.
Fig for fibre, Ajwa dates and raw honey to feed the gut, black seed to calm it — over a thousand peer-reviewed papers on thymoquinone. And fulvic acid from purified shilajit as the carrier, the part Ibn Sina wrote down a thousand years before anyone used the word absorption.
Every other reason on this page depends on this one. If your gut is not moving, nothing you swallow arrives.
Because it was never the food. Cut out the bread, the rice, the dairy — if your stomach is still emptying slowly, whatever is left in there still sits, still ferments, still produces gas. You removed the fuel and left the cause running.
No. A probiotic adds bacteria. This works on how fast things move, and on what your gut gets fed. Fibre from figs. Black seed on the inflammation that slows the whole system down. Different problem, different lever.
It binds minerals and moves them across cell membranes — a transporter, not an active ingredient. You will find "10× absorption" numbers all over the internet. We are not printing one, because we cannot cite a source we would be willing to defend in front of you.
Reason #4
Around three, the day falls off a cliff. So you reach for the fourth coffee.
It gets you to six. Then it takes that back out of Maghrib and Isha. You stand there at the end of the day with nothing left for the one thing you meant to do properly.
Caffeine does not give you energy. It hides how little you have. It blocks the signal that tells you that you are empty. It does not put anything back. Your body has been empty since February and the coffee has only kept you from noticing.
There is no caffeine in the ritual. Ashwagandha on the stress response. Purified shilajit on how your cells make energy — one published study reported up to 29% more ATP produced in muscle tissue.
You will not need the fourth coffee, because there will be nothing to fix at three o'clock.
No. Nobody is asking you to give up the thing that gets you through the morning. The point is that you stop needing four of them by three o'clock.
Studies on purified shilajit as an isolated raw material, at the doses used in those studies. A double-blind placebo-controlled trial over 90 days in healthy men reported an increase of 23.5% in total testosterone and 19.14% in free testosterone versus placebo. That is a result on the raw material — not a prediction about you. Anyone telling you otherwise is selling you a story.
Reason #5
You went to the doctor. That is more than most men do. You described it. You got a standard panel. And you got the sentence thousands of men can quote word for word: everything looks normal, it's normal at your age, you're just stressed.
They did not test the one thing that matters most for a man with your skin, in this country.
Your skin makes vitamin D from direct sun on bare skin. Melanin is sun protection — built for the country your grandparents lived in, and a filter in this one. Same sun. Far longer to make the same amount.
Now count the direct sun in your week. Office. Van. Warehouse. Dark on the way there and dark on the way back.
And from roughly October to April at this latitude, the sun never climbs high enough for your skin to produce meaningful amounts at all. Half the year. Every year. Since you moved here — or since your parents did, which means possibly your entire life.
Around 8 in 10 Muslims in Europe and North America are running a deficiency. Not a dip. A deficiency.
So there is a second gummy: 2000 IU of D3 with 100 mcg of K2 in raw honey. And here is the part almost nobody knows. D3 is not really a vitamin. Structurally it behaves as a hormone precursor — and it sits directly upstream of the one from Reason 1.
Which means the thing your doctor did not measure is upstream of the thing he never mentioned.
You cannot make vitamin D from a sun that is not there. Two gummies a morning is the only other way you get it.
To be clear: keep going to your doctor. Ask for a 25-OH vitamin D level by name. It is rarely on the standard form and it is inexpensive. This article is a reason to walk in with a better question, not a reason to stop going.
Check the label. Two things are usually wrong. The dose: 400–1000 IU was designed to prevent rickets in children, not to refill an emptied store in a grown man at 52° north in February. And there is no K2 on it.
D3's job is to pull calcium into your bloodstream. That is all it does. It does not decide where the calcium goes. K2 activates a protein that directs calcium into bone and away from arterial walls. D3 without K2 is opening the tap without laying the pipes. Vitamin D and vitamin K contribute to the maintenance of normal bones — that is the authorised claim, and it is authorised for the pair.
Reason #6
You cook from scratch. The food is still empty. Home cooked most nights. Meat from a butcher you trust, forty minutes each way. So this is not the part where somebody tells you to eat cleaner.
Halal is the first thing you check on every label. Tayyib — pure, wholesome, genuinely good — is the part nobody talks about. And that is the part that quietly went.
Not our claim. The BBC reported it. Across 43 garden crops between 1950 and 1999: iron down 15%, riboflavin down 38%.
Magnesium, zinc, iron — exactly what a stress response burns first, and exactly what the body needs to build the hormone from Reason 1. Your grandfather got them from food. At this latitude, from this soil, at these levels, you cannot.
The recipe has not changed in four generations. What you can buy to cook it with has.
It would be, if we had run the studies. We did not. The declines were documented in peer-reviewed food composition analyses and reported by outlets with nothing to sell you. Every source is at the bottom of this page.
No, and we are not going to pretend they are. They are about the food supply generally. The relevance is what is missing from a normal diet — not a claim about what is in this bottle.
Reason #7
Turn the bottle over. Read the small print. Gelatin. Or "bovine — source not specified," which tells you nothing about how the animal died.
Most gummy vitamins on that shelf are built on it. Much of it is porcine. And in most places, nobody has any legal obligation to make that obvious to you.
Sit with what that means for a moment.
You drive forty minutes to the butcher you trust. You pay close to triple for halal meat of worse quality and you have never once complained. You have built your whole adult life around one line you do not cross. And you may well have been swallowing it every morning, with breakfast, for years — while believing you were doing everything right.
And the times you did find one that was properly halal?
Talc in the tablets. A smell bad enough to put you off opening the bottle. Stomach pain every time. Or black seed oil so bitter you quit on day four — which is the actual reason it never did anything for you. It was never in your system long enough to.
Not halal — or halal and unbearable. That has been the entire shelf, your entire life.
No gelatine. No alcohol carriers. No pork derivatives. And no talc. Vegan, lab tested per batch, both certificates published in full — not summarised. Published.
You have read every label for twenty years. The one thing you needed to know was never printed on any of them.
It is a flow agent — it stops powder sticking to the machinery during manufacturing. It is there for the factory, not for you.
Only if the animal was slaughtered according to Islamic requirements, and the word "bovine" on a label tells you nothing about that. Which is why it is not in here at all.
Reason #8
These were food long before anyone called them supplements.
Black seed — "healing for every disease except death." Ajwa dates — the daily food of the Prophet ﷺ. Fig — sworn by in Surah At-Tin. Qist al-Hindi — "in it are seven cures." Raw honey — "in it there is healing."
That is five of eight. The other three are not from the Sunnah — and the brand prints that on its own bottle.
Shilajit is Ibn Sina, not hadith. Ashwagandha is Ayurvedic. D3, K2 and zinc are modern nutrition. Every origin is printed on the label.
Any brand could have called all eight prophetic. It would have sold better. Plenty of them do it.
You will see the fourth one written as both Qist al-Hindi and Costus Root. Same plant, Saussurea lappa. Both names are on the bottle, because half of you search for one and half for the other.
Three of these were easy to lie about. They printed the truth on all three.
Because the goal is a body that works, not a costume. Shilajit sits in the tradition of Islamic medicine through Ibn Sina's Canon — the standard medical text in European universities for six hundred years. D3 addresses a deficiency that did not exist at a latitude with that much sun. Neither is dressed up as something it is not.
No, and we would not want you to treat it that way. Black seed happens to have over a thousand peer-reviewed papers behind one of its compounds. That is a separate fact from the hadith, and it should be judged separately.
Reason #9
There is no company-run clinical trial here, and none is being presented as one.
What there is, is what men write afterwards. And the striking part is not that it is positive. It is that they describe the same sequence, unprompted, in different countries.
The afternoon goes first. Then the mornings. The training is last.
Which is the exact opposite of what a pre-workout promises — and exactly what you would expect if the cause is the one described above. A stimulant works from the top down. Refilling a store works from the bottom up.
Different cities, different ages, same order every time.
Yes. Every one is a verified purchase and the full review page is public — including the two- and three-star ones. We have not filtered them.
Because it is the tell. Anything that works from the top down you feel in an hour and it is gone by evening. The afternoon goes first here because that is where the deficit is widest, and the visible things go last because they always do.
Reason #10
His doctor said normal. Here is the blood test that says otherwise. That is a real customer's blood work, months apart, published with his permission. Name and everything else redacted.
The panel on the left came back with the same sentence you got. It was not measuring the thing that was wrong with him.
Nobody sold him a testosterone booster, and this jar is not one. Reason 5 still stands: what emptied out was the raw material, over years, in a country where his skin could not make it.
What happened across those months is what tends to follow. The afternoons came back, so he trained properly again. The mornings came back, so Fajr stopped costing him the rest of the day.
That is a consequence, not a claim. It is one man, it is not typical, and any brand showing you a number like that without saying so is selling you a story.
He did not get a better photograph. He got his afternoons back, and he is awake in the evening with his kids.
See the timeline below. And if you want the honest version: get a 25-OH level now, before you start anything, and another at week twelve. Then you are not taking anyone's word for it — including ours.
We cannot promise that and we are not going to. What we can tell you is what the raw materials have been studied for, at what doses, and where those studies are published. Every one is linked at the bottom of this page. The rest is between you and a blood test.
What it actually is
Two gummies after Fajr. Eight ingredients.
Thirty seconds.

Black seed, dates, fig, Qist al-Hindi and honey — from the Quran and the Sunnah, not from a trend cycle.
Certified, vegan, lab tested per batch. No gelatine, no alcohol carriers, no talc.
Including the three that are not Sunnah, printed on the bottle itself.
What to expect
We are telling you that on purpose. It is how nutrition works. Something that took years to empty out does not refill in seven days, and anything promising you otherwise is selling you a story.
Mostly invisible. This is where most men quit — and it is the reason most supplements never work for anyone.
Where most men describe the first change. Three o'clock stops being a cliff, and the fourth coffee stops being the plan.
Mornings. Fajr stops costing you the rest of the day. Recovery from a hard week takes days instead of a fortnight, and training starts producing something again.
This is when a store that has been empty for years is realistically approaching full. Go back to your doctor and get a 25-OH level. If you only do one thing from this page, do that one.
